Dear parents, caretakers and professionals,

Well, we are in our third year and back in full swing for the 2010-2011 school year.  I am looking forward to seeing all that attend the support group, either regularly or sporadically.

Big change:  There is a new name, meeting place and start/end times for the support group.  This should make the group more accessible to our entire community.  The building is on the northwest corner of 17th and L Streets.  There is free parking in the parking lot that one enters from 18th St., immediately east of K St.  The parking lot is open until 7pm.  Anyone parked in there prior to 7pm can exit at any time, day or night.

The group is now under the "umbrella" of the Kern Autism Network and can be found at:

http://www.kernautism.org/

No other changes have been made.  The format of the meetings will be the same unless you, as participants, would like a change.

Our first meeting will have no speaker, giving everyone an opportunity to share how summer and the start of school went.  I will always bring "take-away" strategies or background information to support social communication, executive functioning (organization) or sensory integration skills.

Asperger Syndrome/High Functioning Autism Support Group: Free monthly parent/caregiver support group meetings at Kern County Superintendent of Schools Building at

1300 17th St., Bakersfield 93301, Room 1A, Main Floor.  Third Tuesday of each month September - May (no December meeting) from 6 - 7:30PM. This group offers a forum for families to share information and learn with other families in similar situations. Occasional guest speakers address specific issues as identified by support group participants. Meetings focus on concerns for pre-teens, teens and young adults.

Facilitator:  Holley Arbeit, M.A., Speech-Language Pathologist. For further information, call

661.204.8531 or
